Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) comes from the same botanical family as frankincense and is mostly found in South America.

The name "Palo Santo" literally means "holy wood." Like white sage, it originated with the native peoples of South America, who centuries ago used it during ceremonies to clear the aura and heal from negative influences. The Incas traditionally used this spiritual oil to purify and cleanse the spirit from negative energies.

The fragrance can be described as warm and woody, with a light, sweet undertone that gently slips through. In comparison with white sage (which is also used for the same purpose), Palo Santo gives off a very mild aroma.
