Discover the warm, herbaceous character of Marjoram Essential Oil, a distinctive aromatic steam-distilled from the wild Thymus mastichina plant of Spain. Known as Spanish Wild Marjoram, this variety of thyme grows with hairy stems, oval leaves, and clusters of little whitish flowers — all of which release the plant's signature fragrance. While it shares the name, it is not the same as sweet or French marjoram, nor is it oregano, which is sometimes also called wild marjoram.

Spanish marjoram oil is said to be more effective than sweet marjoram when used as an expectorant for respiratory tract infections and spasms, thanks to its antiseptic properties for the upper respiratory tract. Unlike sweet marjoram, however, it is not a muscle relaxant or sedative. Commonly used in aromatherapy, it blends beautifully with lavender and bergamot oils to create a relaxing environment. When used in an oil burner or blended into a massage oil, it is said to calm the nerves, ease feelings of loneliness and rejection, and aid digestion.

Spanish wild marjoram has been valued by herbalists since ancient Greece. The Greeks and Romans crowned bridal couples with wreaths of marjoram to symbolise love, honour, and happiness, while singers would drink marjoram tea with honey to preserve their voices.
