Discover the warming comfort of Ginger Essential Oil, extracted from the Zingiberaceae officinale plant, also known as Common or Jamaica Ginger. The name "ginger" is derived from the place called Gingi in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, and the Tamil word for ginger, "inji-ver." The oil is carefully extracted by steam distillation from the unpeeled or dried, ground-up root of the plant. It is a warming oil, particularly good for digestion and for fighting nausea and vomiting.

Ginger oil boasts a wide range of therapeutic properties. It is valued in the treatment of fractures and for soothing the pain of rheumatism, arthritis, and carbuncles. It also helps with hangovers, motion sickness, colds, flu, coughs, sinusitis, sore throat, skin sores, diarrhoea, colic, cramps, chills, and fever. Used in a vaporiser, this oil helps lift feelings of loneliness and depression, while its energising properties make it a wonderful aphrodisiac. Simply place a drop of oil on a handkerchief and inhale to ease nausea, motion sickness, and cold symptoms.

Ginger has its origins in India, China, and Java, but is also native to Africa and the West Indies. Ancient Sanskrit and Chinese texts both mention the use of ginger as medicine, and it also appears in early Greek, Roman, and Arabian literature. Traditionally, dried ginger has been used to relieve stomach aches, diarrhoea, throat problems, and nausea, while in Chinese medicine it has long been valued for supporting the heart and reducing excess mucus and phlegm.
