10 ml Citronella Essential Oil

Citronella essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and stems of the Cymbopogon species of plants, especially Cymbopogon nardus. Famous as a plant-based insect repellent, this natural bio-pesticide has a non-toxic mode of action and has been registered for this use in the USA since 1948. The main countries producing this oil are Indonesia and China, who together make about 40% of the world's citronella essential oil.

Beyond its use as an insect repellent for the skin, citronella oil is also beneficial for excessive perspiration, oily skin and hair, and works as a natural deodorant. It is said to soothe pain from rheumatism and arthritis, and help resist flu, colds, and minor infections. The oil supports the digestive system, helping to ease colitis, intestinal infections, and eliminate intestinal parasites. It also eases menstrual cramps and pain, and gently lifts the heartbeat. Used in a vaporiser, it is known to dispel fatigue, headaches, and neuralgia, creating a mood of cheer and optimism.

Ancient cultures in India, Egypt, and elsewhere where the Cymbopogon grasses grew used them to repel insects, especially mosquitoes. In those times, people settled near rivers and water bodies, which brought an abundance of insects and the diseases they carried. The use of this grass as a repellent was, quite literally, a matter of life and death.
