About the Oil
Roman Chamomile yields an essential oil that is light blue when fresh, extracted from the flowers and upper parts of the plant. With its excellent calming properties, it is known to ease irritation, impatience, and help with PMS as well as other menstrual and menopausal discomforts. Roman Chamomile is an evergreen with a fresh apple scent, mainly grown in France, Belgium, and Eastern Europe.
This gentle oil is excellent for skin concerns such as acne, eczema, rashes, wounds, dermatitis, dry or itchy skin, and allergies. It is also valued for abdominal pain, gall bladder issues, and throat infections, and may help relieve allergies, hay fever, and asthma. In diluted form, it can calm children suffering from colic, irritability, diarrhoea, and teething. When used in a vaporiser, it eases headaches, nervous tension, and migraines. While this oil is considered gentle enough for use with children and babies, always consult a qualified expert before administering it.
History & Tradition
The medicinal use of chamomile dates back thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. The Egyptians dedicated it to the sun god, and a papyrus document dating to 2800 BC records its use in treating skin disorders. Chamomile oil was even used to embalm bodies. Hippocrates, the great Greek physician, is said to have used chamomile as a herbal remedy. In mythology, chamomile is one of the nine sacred herbs given by Wodan, the god of the underworld, to mortals to improve their lives.
